Though much of Beijing's old city walls were demolished in the first half of the 20th-century, their legacies live on in China's capital. Many of the city's vibrant neighborhoods are named after the individual gates, and one of the city's subway lines actually follow a good part of where the inner city walls used to stand. As this video postcard shows, these ancient footprints still define Beijing's modern urban geography. Please check back later for a more complete profile on old Beijing.
